Lundgren, D. G. (Syracuse University, Syracuse, N.Y.), R. Alper, C. Schnaitman and R. H. Marchessault. Characterization of poly-beta-hydroxybutyrate extracted from different bacteria. J. Bacteriol. 89:245-251. 1965.-Poly-beta-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) from different bacterial genera was studied with regard to its crystal structure, infrared absorption, intrinsic viscosity, and electron microscopy. All PHB samples precipitated from dilute chloroform solution gave identical X-ray diffractograms confirming uniformity of crystal structure, and uniformity of molecular structure, based on the similarity of the recorded infrared spectra, was also established. Crystal morphology was also similar, showing the reported "lath" shape structure for purified polymer from Bacillus cereus. Intrinsic viscosity ranged from 0.04 to 11.5 depending upon the polymer treatment; polymer molecular weights, based upon viscometry, could be estimated to range from 1,000 to 250,000. It is concluded that the same basic molecule is involved in all PHB present in the bacterial kindgom.

Effects of natural polymer (Poly-β-hydroxybutyrate) and its degrading bacteria on lipid metabolism and digestive tract pH in Siberian Sturgeon Acipenser baerii Brandt, 1869 fingerlings
Five hundred and ninety two Siberian sturgeon (A. baerii) fingerlings (average weight, 11.1±0.9 g) were randomly distributed in 16 tanks (150 L) at a density of 35 fish per tank and fed different treatments (Control, degrading bacteria, 2% PHB, degrading bacteria + 2%PHB) for 60 days. At the end of the experiment, the results indicated that the fish fed PHB or bacteria treatments had low midgut...
متن کاملMicrobial production and characterization of poly-3-hydroxybutyrate by Neptunomonas antarctica
Considering the industrial interest of biodegradable polymer poly-3-hydroxybutyrate (PHB), the marine bacteria Neptunomonas antarctica was studied for its ability to accumulate PHB. The extracted polymer was confirmed to be PHB by nuclear magnetic resonance analysis. In shake flask cultures using natural seawater as medium components, PHB was produced up to 2.12 g/L with a yield of 0.18 g PHB/g...

At the end of the experiment, no significant difference was observed in case of final weight in fingerlings but fish fed PH...

Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) [P(3HB)] homopolymer and poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3hydroxyvalerate) [P(3HB-co-3HV)] copolymer was produced by Comamonas sp. EB172 using single and mixture of carbon sources. Poly(3-hydroxyvalerate) P(3HV) incorporation in the copolymer was obtained when propionic and valeric acid was used as precursors. Incorporation of 3HV fractions in the copolymer varied from 45 to 8...
متن کاملDraft Genome Sequence of Halomonas sp. HG01, a Polyhydroxyalkanoate-Accumulating Strain Isolated from Peru
Halomonas sp. strain HG01, isolated from a salt mine in Peru, is a halophilic aerobic heterotrophic bacterium accumulating poly-3-hydroxybutyrate and poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) from different carbon sources. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of this isolate, which was found to be 3,665,487 bp long, with a G+C content of 68%.
